San Benito County Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo
The rodeo began in 1929 as a weekend of fun and challenge for hard-working cowboys and ranch hands. A truly local show, in contrast to other nearby rodeos with rodeo professional participants, it’s open only to County residents, property owners, or people who work here – but anyone can watch, on the last full weekend in June. Visit the Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo website for more information.
California Gymkhana Association
California State Finals: All year, throughout the state, the GGA promotes performance horse obstacle racing and related horsemanship and sportsmanship for riders of all ages. The timed events on horseback in the Finals at Bolado in July emphasize fun and enjoyment, not just competition and skills acquisition.
Gold Coast Poultry Fanciers Annual Show
Don’t feel limited to the County Fair as your only chance to admire numerous breeds of chickens- exhibitors young and old from all over the state love to show you their birds at this annual show in mid-January (separate from 4-H and FFA programs).
Cattlemen’s Dinner Dance
“Beef? It’s What’s for Dinner!” as brought to you by the hardworking professionals who raise cattle in the county. Some games, drinks, and music round out the annual celebration of the Cattleman of the Year.
Historic Sacred Heart School invites everyone to kick up their heels in an Old West atmosphere after a yummy traditional dinner. Dance the night away to a live band in the Pavillion.
Thanks to the proximity to Monterey Bay, service clubs present an annual dinner with crab, crab, and more crab. Eating is messy but fun, and you leave the mess at Bolado.
